Course Sequence


The event challenges teams across four distinct disciplines, moving from the bay up into the jungle and back down.


1.Phase 1: Open-Water Swim: Kalapaki Beach.

Teams launch directly from the sand into Kalapaki Bay. Observation and retrieval support boats will be stationed throughout the bay for athlete safety.


2.Phase 2: Watercraft Navigation: Bay to River Transit.

Transition from swimming to watercraft. Teams navigate the designated water course, requiring precise coordination to handle the bay currents.


3.Phase 3: Uphill Jungle Run: 1/2-Mile Ascent.

An intense 1-mile foot race tackling steep, unpaved jungle terrain. Volunteer-led coordination stations will be placed at key turning points for safety and direction.


4.Phase 4: Downhill Bike Descent: 4-Mile Finish Leg.

The final push. A short, 4-mile downhill bike leg that brings competitors back down for the finish line and the awards ceremony.

The Kalapaki Eco Adventure is a four (4) legged event designed to challenge the individual's skill at swimming, use of watercraft, running/walk and bicycling. All within a time limit of three (3.5) hours.


The Kalapaki Eco Adventure's course was created for fund raising, and the beneficiaries are Mālama Hulēʻia and Nawiliwili Yacht Club.


The event takes place in the waters of Nawiliwili where swimming is the first challenge of the journey.


  • The course is swum parallel to the beach (2) lengths (0.5mi).
  • The second leg is watercraft. From the beach, Paddle through the bay and up to the top of the Huleia Stream. (3.4mi)
  • Egress the water and continue up to Haiku Rd on foot a challenging (0.7mi) up to Hulemalu Rd.
  • At Hulemalu road everyone grabs their bicycles and head down the hill to the end of the event at Niumalu and Hulemalu Rd. (4.7mi)

Lunch is provided and a recognition ceremony for all who participated.



Beneficiary

Mālama Hulēʻia is a Kauaʻi-based organization dedicated to restoring the Hulēʻia Watershed. Our mission is to advocate, educate, and lead community efforts to remove mangrove along the Hulēʻia River, re-establish native wetland ecosystems, manage Alakoko fishpond, and create environmental stewardship programs honoring Hawaiian values

Course Information


The Kalapaki Eco Adventure is a four (4) legged event taking place in the waters of Nawiliwili, Kauai. The event includes:


  • swimming (.5 mi.), From the boulder (right side) @Kalapaki Beach and back.
    Each swimmer will have a partner on the beach where the equipment will be ready. ( shoes, water, watercraft) Strongest partner swims    . Both go up the river. This event requires a team of two (2) persons. Strongest swimmer and safety/equipment partner.
  • kayaking (3.4 mi.), SUP or surfboard up the Huleia stream from Kalapaki Beach
  • running (.7 mi.) uphill on Haiku Rd. Footwear needed. Trails will be marked.
  • bicycling (3.4mi.) on Halemalu Rd. down to the Kauai Sailing Assoc. building.


Speed limits will be observed.


Distance = approx. 8.2 miles

time limit: 3.5 hours.


This event is not designed for ‘A’ listers but those who wanna have fun. The event is not a race but an adventure!!


***EMT will be stationed at Alekoko Lookout.
